Bada-Bada-Bingo

Inspired by cult TV series the Sopranos and our ongoing journey with Dementia, this is the latest offering to help reduce social isolation.

Although much of our work is with the younger population, the personal challenges of recent years have steered us to question how we can help the elderly.

Mum has been an inspiration

After she had a recent fall I have been spending more time with my Mum, exploring different artistic endeavours. Although I felt a bit guilty for not trying it before, I was surprised just how much she was getting from it and how it supported her mental health and cognition.

Bada-Bada-Bingo Is a (hopefully) less competitive mix between Bingo and Name That Tune which we will be trialing with local groups soon.

If there are any local groups to Doncaster which are interested in smashing social isolation then feel free to get in touch.

How do we do it?

Simple. We engage and explore.

What does it look like?

A 5 second snip of what we do

How do we get it?

You can contact us at 90minutemusic@gmail.com

Is it really FREE?

Yes….. All we ask is that you fill in a short survey, or video interview, such as the one here….. 90minutemusic.co.uk /2022/01/21/active-fusion-winter-camps/

Active Fusion Winter Camps

Just a quick word from some of the young people who we have been working with in December

Big thanks to the children at West Road for sharing their positive views

Once again thanks to Lindsy and all the wonderful staff at Active Fusion for their support, also the staff and pupils at Kirk Sandall, Windhill, and West Road for their commitment in supporting not only a boost to the education of their children, but much needed support for local families who have been affected by the pandemic.

Highfields Boxing Club

Great engagement, group working, problem solving, lyric writing and composition.

We have been working with young people with the support of the Barrier Buster Fund. This has been an incredible boost to our fightback from the Coronavirus pandemic. We used traditional instruments, samplers and synthesizers to compliment the vocals we recorded.

The boxing community understand the value of respect and the young people gave us plenty while showing us a few moves that they had learnt. 90 Minute Music is about sharing experience and development, so it felt good to learn, as well as sharing our knowledge.

Thanks again to Liz for allowing us to use this gem of a venue to deliver, and big thanks to Well Doncaster and the Barrier Buster team for supporting the development of our young people.

Active Fusion Campsmount Academy

A joy to be asked to join Active Fusion on their Easter Camp to support the transition of young people into secondary education.

Campsmount Academy is a wonderful place to learn, set in the countryside and has been reborn and rebuilt after the tragedy of fire struck a few years ago. As I was driving up, there was a pheasant crossing the road in front of me that had made its way from the adjacent farmland. It feels spacious and the colossal sports hall was large enough to accommodate safely distanced activities.

There were around 40 young people taking part and were split into 4 groups to ensure they all had a chance to experience not only 90 Minute Music, but also Karate, and sports-based activities delivered by trained professionals.

We only had 45 Minutes with each group, so I decided to make it count. As we got through so much, so quickly, I am just going to list the elements that we shared.

Singing – Call and answer   Song Form and Discussed instrumentation.  Discussed feelings around music.  Discussed SLD’s and where music fits in.   Explored learning exercises.   Tried out new technology and Acoustic instruments. Played along as a group.  Understood the idea of chopping up a beat.  Recorded and played back audio and evaluated the sound and levels. Experimented with sound design. Beat Making. Electro acoustic jam.

Aside of the practical session with 100% engagement, the real value was bringing together young people who were from different schools and were only introduced as a result of this opportunity. After the Social exclusion of the last year due to Covid-19 this was a vital resource for the young people involved.

Thanks to Luke for accommodating us and for joining in when I invited him to do so. He helped us open a discussion around Dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties, in which we recognised as a group that the courage to speak openly in front of your peers is not to be taken for granted.

We powered through many confidence building, anxiety quashing, education enhancing exercises today. Thanks to all the young people for attending, and big thanks to Active Fusion and The Barrier Buster Fund for funding us.
